Cori, Our Adorable DIY Bride Gets Blog Coverage Along With Her Beautiful Bouquet!

South African Jewish Wedding by Sweet Tea Imagery

For those of you that haven’t typically heard of a South African Jewish wedding, Cori and Adam would describe it in just one word as “nuts!” Along with having a D.J. that sounds like the Geico Gecko, surprise guests, and techno disco mixed in to their first dance, their Palm Springs wedding is just the prettiest thing we’ve ever seen. The stunning setting with breathtaking views didn’t need much decorating, but the DIY details added that extra touch of personalization. We love how the pops of blue and green colors and the cacti and succulents in the bouquet compliment the desert setting!

Venue: The O’Donnell House At The Willows Historic Inn, Palm Springs, CA/ Dress:  Nicole Miller/ Shoes: Matisse Maldives Sandal/ Dessert: Gayle Glass, MOB, made cookies and bars/ Catering: Jennifer’s Kitchen (she was awesome to work with from day one!)/ Invites & Programs: Stacie Malkus- Leftwave Designs– Sister of the bride made the invitations, Bride made the programs (they were really just explanations of a Jewish wedding, more than a program)/ Bridal Bouquet: My Little Flower Shop/ Flowers: Mostly just pinwheels. We ordered a few gerbera daisies from 2G Roses (online), which worked out well because my awesome friends cut them all for me!/ Pinwheels: My Rule 42 Etsy Shop (smaller pinwheels handmade by bride)/ Music: DJ Chris Paul- He sounds like the Geiko Gecko. We loved him! Photographer: Sweet Tea Imagery (Amy and Billy Morris were AMAZING photographers to work with!!!!) Videographer: Imagique Weddings (We weren’t going to have our wedding filmed but then somebody told us how much her kids love watching her wedding. Our friend Danny from South Africa edits videos, so he took the raw footage home with him, and he is editing it as our wedding gift!)/ Hair & Makeup: Salon Mirror Mirror

What’s The Best Use Of Wedding Planning Time? Hint: You’re not going to “like” it.

Planning a wedding can feel like a black hole where you throw your time. Remember those days when you went out for drinks? As Spring hits, the weather is making us all long to put on some shorts and go play. So what’s the most efficient way to plan, so we can get out and enjoy the beautiful weather? Well, for starters, finish reading this blog and power down your shiny screen. Bottom line: you gotta stop pinning, liking and tweeting to focus and get things done.

Don’t get me wrong.  Wedding websites, blogs and software have moved event planning lightyears ahead of where we were. But then you get to the “rabbit hole” type of phenomenon like Pinterest.  You start out admiring a pretty veil someone posted, and three hours later you’re in a pinning frenzy finding recipes, houses to buy, cars you like…it can spin out of control.

So if you want to get out and enjoy the cherry blossoms, tiptoe through the tulips or just have general fun in the sun, put away the electronics, get down to the task at hand and try not to get distracted. Ready, set, focus!

See you in the park…we’ll be the ones putting up the wedding arbor. Watch it with the frisbee. K?

Whistling While We Work: Life As Part Of The Fairy Tale Industrial Complex

Wedding professionals are in the Fairy Tale business.  Brides come to us with plans in their heads, many of which have been growing like Jack’s beanstalk since they were little girls, and have reached way up into the clouds.  They know what they want things to look like from their centerpieces right down to the ribbon swags hung to block off the aisle.  These days, what with television wedding shows and coverage of over the top celebrity weddings, everyone feels pressure to have a “Fairy Tale” wedding regardless of budget.

And so we wedding planners and floral/event designers become responsible for not just a wedding, but for a dream come to life.  We become magical elves, fairy godmothers, and the Wizard of Oz all in one. (He may not have been much of a wizard, but he was one heck of an event designer).

This is a big responsibility, and one we take very seriously at My Little Flower Shop.  We listen to a bride (and/or groom) when they explain their vision, work with them, and their budget to create the most magical wedding possible.  We don’t try to shoehorn anyone into something we have in mind, but instead weave together their resources and our talents to make their dreams come true.

So gotta run…time to wave the wand a little.  Note to self: research the existence of a Fairy Godmother’s Union.
