Great Minds Think Alike – and appreciate the same GORGEOUS flowers!

The Hollywood Farmer’s Market is a colorful place.  With fruit and vegetable vendors, musicians and, well, Hollywood natives, there’s never a shortage of sights to see.  But this past weekend, one flower stall stopped me in my tracks.

Silverlake Farms’ ranunculus alone were priceless, but then there were the anemones, and all sorts of other wildflowers so bright and colorful they looked good enough to eat.  Or at least good enough to randomly grab a bunch, tie it up in some ribbon, and send any high-end bride straight down the aisle.

But the best part came when I asked owner/urban farmer Tara Kolla if she sold wholesale.  She asked if I was in the industry, and I explained I worked for a floral design studio in Palm Springs.  “Oh yeah” she replied. “They were here last week.”  Apparently Greg and Al had been at the market during their pre-Oscar delivery,  and had the identical reaction to her deliciously beautiful flowers.  And when I talked to Greg, he told me they would be working out an arrangement to get their hands on some of Tara’s blooms.  “Weren’t those ranunculus amazing?” Greg asked.  Great minds think alike!

Feeling the Authentic Post V-Day LOVE!

Is it weird to feel the love strongest after Valentine’s Day? Not for a floral design company. We’re authentic romance enthusiasts.

It’s a rush running all over town delivering happiness in solid form to people.  And on Valentine’s Day it’s overwhelming – too fast, too furious and all goes by in a blink.  So the day after “the day,” it finally comes washing back over you quite how much of an effect you had on people’s day, romances and relationships in that 18 hours of sheer madness. And it feels really good.

I often comment about how lucky we are to work around beauty and love all day long.  And that’s meant literally – the beauty of flowers, and the glow of engaged couples is intoxicating.  It’s hard not to be happy helping brides to be pick out ways to make their weddings beautiful.  But there’s something so pure about delivering Valentine’s flowers to a girl who doesn’t think they are for her, or watching a couple married 30 years turn to teenagers over a bouquet of red roses.  Secret admirers, mothers to sons, there’s just something special about that Valentine love.  So pardon us if we’re still reveling in it. We’re suckers for romance, it kind of comes with the territory.  We’d better be, or we couldn’t be in this wacky, crazy business, or at least we wouldn’t be very good at it.

Authenticity makes the difference whether you’re running for president, or if you’re running all over town with a van full of Valentine’s flowers. We are who we are, and that makes our business what it is, and our events (particularly weddings) what they are.  Us? Happy and grateful.  Our business? On a terrific roll.  Our weddings?  Beautiful, and authentically romantic.

Sometimes Love is In The Stars. Or The Star Wars. Same diff, right?

Having met my husband at a Halloween party, dressed as Star Wars heroine Princess Leia, this cake photo struck near and dear to my heart. As I knew well at the time, Princess Leia revvs up the hearts of many men of a certain age, and my costume interpretation of “Leia goes to the disco on Hoth” was killer. I had him at cinnamon buns. Almost exactly two years later, we threw a party (aka destination wedding) in Palm Springs, (I had another killer up-do) and became husband and wife.

Just about everybody knows someone who is really into Star Wars.  And when it comes to weddings, many a shout out has been made to the citizens of the galaxy. Some are musical (a recessional from the movie’s score is a good one), pastry, like these folks did, or fashion (Leia did wear a lot of white..).  So don’t fear throwing a little George Lucas inspiration in the mix.  We do advise however, that a soup-to-nuts all out costumed, Star Wars themed wedding would make people uncomfortable, as does any 100% re-enactment wedding.   And in the end, we’re celebrating our friends and family as much as ourselves.  If they are all miserable in their storm trooper armor and ewok hats, they may as well have stayed far, far away.
