In November, I blogged about my favorite Italian wedding tradition, jordan almonds. As I love finding ways for couples to honor their heritage, there was a whole series of traditions from other cultures  to come, right? Apparently, I spaced out and got off my mental “It’s A Small World” ride, but never fear, I’m getting back on.  Since we’re starting over, here’s the Italian info that started us off.   More to come this time around.

That’s Amore! Love! Amore! (let’s keep it true amore as opposed to the kind that is likely about to kill the political career of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi).

The Italian culture is passionate, full of beautiful art, fashion and design.  The food? Don’t get me started. What better place to find wedding inspiration? You could go a hundred directions with this – and we say run with it, FloJo – let that imagination loose.  Our favorite Italian wedding detail, suitable for any wedding, very pretty, and very easy: Jordan almonds.

Jordan almonds are candy coated almonds that you’ll find at any traditional Italian wedding.  Sometimes in little dishes on the tables at the reception, others cleverly packaged as favors (traditionally small tulle bags), or even sprinkled directly on a dessert buffet as part of the decor. Used in groups of five, almonds signify five wishes for the bride and groom: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity. Design bonus: they are available in any color of the rainbow, even silver and gold, so they can be perfectly blended with any decor.

Can’t say that about big pizza pies, can you?

In addition to “centerpiece,” a popular search term bringing people to the My Little Flower Shop website is (shock!) “My Little Flower Shop.”  We’re thrilled that people know our name, and want to get to know us.  So, in that spirit, here’s some things “About Us.”

Growing up in a prestigious Ohio floral empire, Gregory Goodman, Special Event Artist, has had event artistry in his blood from the get-go. Alan Kelly, CEO, learned floral design after leaving the military, meeting Greg and discovering his true passion and an untapped wellspring of talent and creativity. Falling in love with Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley, they decided to make their second home a permanent location and My Little Flower Shop quickly rose to prominence as the premiere full service floral and event design studio in Palm Springs, CA.

You want even more wedding centerpieces? Now this is getting personal..

The stats don’t lie, centerpieces are all the rage. And why not?  They do make a good starting point.  So now we get personal. Here’s the scoop (and the photos) of the centerpieces from my October 2010 wedding expertly planned, designed and coordinated by My Little Flower Shop, soup to nuts.

My now husband and I told Greg the colors we liked, and that we wanted the wedding to be on the contemporary side.  From there, Greg came up with the idea that instead of one big design in the center of the table, he would do three smaller ones – more of a tablescape than a centerpiece.  The outcome was elegant and modern, and suited us perfectly.

This low, rectangular centerpiece element is green cymbidium orchids and seeded eucalyptus in a natural fiber container

 

This centerpiece element consists of tightly clustered green button poms in a modern glass container lined with a ti leaf
This centerpiece element added height to the trio with white dendrobium orchids in a bed of moss in a neutral ceramic container
Pin-spot lights focused on each table highlight and unify the three pieces and make the glassware sparkle
The tables varied: there were also low arrangements made of green roses.
