Horror Stories Are For Halloween! Not The Bride!

Did you hear about the bride whose dress was burned in a fire the night before her wedding? Did you hear about the groom who locked himself in the hotel bathroom and missed the whole reception? As a florist in an ideal destination wedding location like Palm Springs, I understand why people are compelled to share bridal nightmare tales with wedding vendors. They know we’ve dealt with our fair share, and in their own way, they are showing  respect for the sometimes challenging, but always rewarding, work that we do.  But for goodness sake people, please stop scaring the brides!  Lord knows they’re a skittish bunch, so don’t follow up “Congratulations on your engagement!” with some tale of a wedding gone horribly wrong.  It may be funny to you, but to this person diving into the difficult planning process, it’s no laughing matter.  So have a little heart.  Save the bridal calamity tales for the bridesmaids. Now THAT’s your demographic!

Open Sesame! My Little Flower Shop’s Grand Re-Opening Was A Smash!

What a night! So many thank yous. We “like” our sponsors/vendors and so should you! Hit them up on Facebook. Wedding Warriors, Desert Business Association , Classic Party Rentals , Crater Lake Vodka & Gin, Pastry Swan Bakery, Freeze Photobooth, Musical Affair Entertainment, Alan’s Award Winning Photography and Video, Crush FM, New Leaf Catering, Stephen Archdeacon Gallery,  Wil Stiles, Mellany Miller Photography, Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, Palm Desert Chamber, & the Desert Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce. And of course our own intrepid staff at My Little Flower Shop! (did you know that was our favorite Palm Spring florist? hee hee).

And to all who came out to mix, mingle and party down, thank you most of all! The energy was amazing, and we had a fantastic time. We’re going to have to renovate or something – I’ve got to figure out a way to Re Re Grand Open so we can have another great party!

Be well, and love well.

If Music Be The Food of Love, Play Some Once In A While!

Many of us have iPods full of music we don’t listen to often enough. What we may not realize is that music is not just the food of love, but the food of memory.

When I hear Wham! Crooning ‘Careless Whisper’ I am catapulted from a Palm Springs florist

let there be music!

shop to a junior high social and am flooded with memories of a guy turning up his nose when I asked him to dance. (What a jerk. Probably still is).

When I hear Taylor Swift start singing “Hey Stephen,” a warm feeling comes over me as I remember the delicious early days when I just realized my then boyfriend (now husband) was the best thing since flexible cutting boards.

When I hear One Direction harmonize on “you don’t know you’re beautiful,” I am reminded of a promo I saw on  TLC for Randy To The Rescue using that song, and that I need to keep an eye out this summer for my hairstylist Paul Norton who is all over reality TV!

You get the picture. Your life’s major as well as not-quite-so-epic moments play out to a soundtrack. Get on iTunes, and bring back some memories of your own. Who knows where your recollections will take you!

Be well, and love well.
