Wedding Movie of the Week: Family Comedy – The Muppets Take Manhattan!

Family friendly and utterly charming, The Muppets Take Manhattan is a gem. The most successful kids films are those that entertain adults as well, and the person that pioneered that concept was Jim Henson. In this film, his Muppets, well, take Manhattan, and everyone’s hearts along with it.

If you haven’t seen it in years, you’ll be delighted at the actors and cameos: Dabney Coleman, Brooke Shields and the mayor of New York himself, Ed Koch.

And the wedding? The wedding is a movie musical lover’s dream. Featuring Big Bird.

Enjoy.

Wedding Movie of the Week! Legendary Mafia Drama- The Godfather

The opening scenes of The Godfather are set at a beautiful outdoor wedding with a band, a lovely cake, and all the trimmings. It also serves as a way to introduce the nature of the film as we learn that Don Corleone is hearing requests because “no Sicilian can refuse a request on his daughter’s wedding day.” And with that you’re sucked in to a time and a world far from our own.  And it’s delicious.  And then there’s another wedding! We’ll call this one a destination wedding. It’s traditional and beautiful.  When you surface, almost 3 hours later, get your hands on the sequel. There’s no wedding in that one, but there is an elaborate backyard celebration of a first communion. That will do. Enjoy.

The Wedding Movie Of The Week! Sixties Classic Dramedy – The Graduate

When talking classic, coming-of-age movies, nothing beats “The Graduate.” You’ve got iconic quotes, and the-graduate-movie-postercareer-defining performances by Anne Bancroft and a young Dustin Hoffman in a great movie directed by Mike Nichols.  This film was how a lot of people first heard the “new band” Simon & Garfunkel.  If you’ve never seen it, and always wondered who Mrs. Robinson was, settle in for a great 60’s experience.  The wedding isn’t very wedding-y, but it’s in there, so it counts for our series.  Here’s to you!
