Champagne Saberers and Other Ways to Give Your Wedding Venue A Heart Attack

Ever seen a champagne saberer? That’s someone who opens bottle of champagne dramatically – with a sword.  I thought that sounded like the coolest thing ever.  Why not create the bubbly, exploding high point at a wedding? Get six of them for an exciting lead-in to some adventurous bride’s champagne toast.  Greg, always the cool-headed event professional threw a champagne bucket on my head.

“I have one word for you:  LIABILITY.”

There’s a reason you can’t do whatever you want at your wedding.  Someone, be it a professional wedding venue or your lovely aunt who’s loaning you her backyard, is legally responsible for what occurs on their property.  You also, as the person giving the party, can also be held responsible. It’s best to avoid dangerous activities (like ones that say, that cause flying bits of glass in the air near your guests.)

I am not a lawyer.  I cannot say whether you will give your venue’s coordinator a heart attack when you show up with your pet python as a ringbearer.  The key here is to ask – and to stay one step ahead of plans.  Cheers to planning!  Champagne, anyone?

Be well, and love well.

Wedding Planning Ideas: Write Them Down!

We’ve been re-arranging, decorating and cleaning our humble home recently. The blog Apartment Therapy and their guided “January Cure,” (a task-a-day kick start to a year of clutter clearing and nesting activities,) got us going and now we’re off on all sorts of projects and improvements.

When we get on this sort of kick, the ideas start flowing. There was one brilliant idea we were super excited about that was going to revolutionize our space and make our lives easier – but we can’t remember what it was.  During our burst of creativity and inspiration, we neglected to take out pad and pencil, (or Ipad and finger) and write it down.

Write down how you see your decor, so we can get it just right, like this wedding canopy.
Write down how you see your decor, so we can get it just right, like this wedding canopy.

Do not follow our example with your wedding planning light bulb moments!  Write EVERYTHING down that inspires you.  Later on you’ll combine the decor idea from your co-worker’s cousin’s buffet with the recipe you read in Gourmet magazine at the dentist’s office, the classical music you heard driving after admiring a scene in a Bollywood movie with gauzy fabric and a zillion candles.  But it will only come together if you keep paper & a pen (or your favorite way to make notes- Ipad, voice memo, etc)

  • in your desk at work
  • in your purse
  • in the car
  • next to your fave spot to watch TV

Another great (and quite common) source of inspiration? Your dreams.  So don’t forget one more pad by the bed.  Sleep tight.

Live well and love well.

Friday is Advice for the Bride-Day! 3 Tips to ensure you enjoy your wedding this weekend.

We love Fridays at My Little Flower Shop! Gearing up for weekend weddings and parties gets us fired up.  Ad so we’re taking to the blog to FIRE UP this weekend’s brides and grooms with a little pep talk. Here are a few pointers as you head into the big weekend you’ve been waiting for!

  • Let it All Go. You’ve planned and plotted – and it’s finally here.  This is the moment to take a deep breath and trust yourself, your family and the people you’ve hired to bring your dream day to life.  The work is done, and what will happen will happen.  At a certain point any event takes on a life of its own, and trying to control it from the position of Bride or Groom is only going to make you crazy.

If you trust your family and your vendors, everything will turn out beautifully.
  • Laugh When Things Go “Wrong.” There’s gonna be a hitch.  It may be small, it may be huge, but it’s going to be the story you’ll tell through the years, howling with laughter at the absurdity. Why not start laughing now and save yourself a lot of heartache? Holding on to the bitterness of a wrongly ruffled cake all evening hurts no one but you and your new husband/wife.
  • Breathe Deeply, Stand Up Straight, and Enjoy Your Moment. ‘Nough said.

See you on the flip side as Mr. and Mrs!

Live well, and love well.
