I’d like to thank the Academy…for ordering this FABULOUS stemware!

Do the glittering parties surrounding awards shows like last nights’ Emmy Awards and the coming Grammys, and Oscars have anything to do with little ole’ non-celeb weddings?  You bet.

1 – They’re the inspiration. Design for big awards shows is adventurous, and usually very spendy.  The organizers want “wow” factor, so designers stretch themselves and set trends.  The hottest colors and themes trickle down- so a motif from the press check in table at the Grammys may show up on your escort card table.

2 – Goblets, and linens, and tables, oh my!  Being in the SoCal area can get you closer to Awards Show inspiration.  Many designers, not finding the “look” they need from existing stock at party rental companies, will have them buy a new pattern of glassware, create a custom linen, or even specially sized or shaped tables.  Those items don’t usually disappear from inventory after the event, the rental company wants to make their money back.

3 – The Lifetime Achievement Award – Another perk of being a SoCal bride is that you have access to professionals who have experience at fabulous events.  There are things that a designer can only learn at the Oscars. Lucky for our brides, the My Little Flower Shop staff has collectively done floral design and event planning for multiple years’ Emmys,  Oscars, and some of the hottest after-parties like the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.  That’s a lot of glamour, experience and flair we’re ready to put into your event.  After all, on you wedding day, you deserve the star treatment. And even a little ole’ wedding is hugely important to us.

Down the rabbit hole…what was I searching for to begin with?

Ah the paradox of the Internet.  So helpful, but it’s kind of a rabbit hole. Alice went down following something specific, and then all of a sudden she was at a tea party full of  strange people.  So you went on looking for a certain color combination of Jordan almonds. You clicked here and there and suddenly you’re on Salon.com reading about how the Democratic, Republican and Tea Parties are full of really strange people.

What’s the lesson here?  Make sure you stay focused on your particular search.  And if you’re just in the mood to knock around on the Knot, or read your favorite Floral and Event Design Studio blog, set your kitchen timer for a half hour to spare your eyes and your sanity.  The rabbits like to keep their holes to themselves.

Celebrating 9/11 Event Planner style

Everyone is breathing easier after 9/11. Organizations, municipalities, families and friends all marked 9/11 in their own way.  Many were quiet and somber affairs, for our part, we had an elegant but casual dinner party for 10.  Tablecloths, shining silverware, sparkling wine glasses, and 5 couples having a marvelous time. At first we questioned the wisdom of the date – but it was the night everyone was free.  After thinking, we realized there had to be event planners who we lost on 9/11. And floral designers, and caterers.  People whose passion for celebration should be honored – by us celebrating any and all occasions.

So we salute those who gathered in joy yesterday: and we encourage everyone to celebrate every day.  Rudy Giuliani said at the funeral of a fire captain who died in the towers that it was now up to us to go out and live the life that the first responders had died to save.  Make sure you do your part. Do some living, some laughing, some dancing, and toasting.  To Life!
