Fashion and Flowers: A perfect Match

We were brushing up on our bridal fashion when we stumbled across this dress on WeddingBee.com (a super wedding blog). The simple elegance reminded us of our recent arrangement for a Fashion Week event, so we had to post it!  It’s Carolina Herrera, and as they wisely noted on WeddingBee, perfect for a chic city-hall bride. We’ll add that it’s just as perfect for a cool destination bride  – this is a Palm Springs dress if we ever saw one. Plus, we’ve already worked out the bouquet (imagine something based on the below with black ribbon…gorgeous), and envisioned an entire beautiful black-and-white themed decor scheme, um…hello…someone should take advantage of all our hard work!  Enjoy Fashion Week everybody.  Work that runway, girls!

And here’s the arrangement:

My Little Advice Shop? The Planner Is In – we’ll give our 5 cents. Just ask!

Phew! End of a busy week, start of a busy weekend. We’re gonna stand still for a minute. Literally. Start your stopwatch. A minute here, a minute there, we have to grab the calm moments when they come. That goes for brides as well as wedding pros!

So – what does a person do to relax in the middle of the whirlwind?  Good question, and one we get a lot from brides and grooms.  We always share our go-to advice that applies to literally every question we are asked (except maybe ‘how do I tranquilize my mother?’). It fits the how to relax question well:

Breathe, stand up straight, and enjoy your moment.

  • Breathing deeply  and slowly in and out ten times is a lifesaver. This can be accomplished in the car, a department store dressing room, or the produce department at Ralph’s – just do it.
  • Standing up straight (or sitting up straight or adjusting your posture while lying down) gives you a moment to reconnect with yourself.  You’ll look better and feel better.
  • Last, enjoying your moment in this situation means fully embracing that this is a break, and not a time to create a meeting agenda in your head, or think about your seating chart.  You’ve been given a gift of 5, 10, 15 minutes, honor it and yourself and you will feel renewed.

Keep practicing as you plan for the big day and you’ll be an expert when it’s time to breathe, stand up straight, and enjoy your moment as you walk down the aisle.

pretty flowers - always relaxing.

The City of Palm Springs: inspiring hearts and minds! And tablescapes!

As if you didn’t know, we love Palm Springs.  We’re thrilled to live here and do business in the community with our wonderful customer base that is always growing. We were honored the other night to be asked to decorate a table at the Renaissance Esmeralda for an event that benefitted the March of Dimes.  The request came from none other than our fair city, Palm Springs.  All the area cities had tables, and we were excited to be tapped to create the one that represented our hometown, and the center of the My Little Flower Shop universe. We chose a bright, cheerful red jacquard linen, and set it off with one of our signature Manzanita tree scupltural centerpieces hung with three lush spheres of scarlet roses and Swarovski crystal drops.  To pull in that Palm Springs “je ne sais quois,” and keep things fresh, we placed a boldly patterned pillow in each chair.  The outcome? a beautiful table that’s not afraid to get it’s party on!  Martini anyone?
