Making Sense of Scents At Your Wedding

What should your wedding smell like? Designers sometimes sell clients on setting the mood with scent. I remember a demonstration by a company that made diffusers giant enough to fill a sound stage with one of their pre-packaged concoctions: cotton candy for circus themed event, and – heaven help us- they even tried to recreate florals.  The air at the premiere party of “The Last Samurai” was supposed to be tinged with a hint of cherry blossoms.  Instead, guests kept asking “what’s that terrible smell?”  The planner needed no coaxing to shut off the machine.

R E S P E C T – Aretha knows a thing or two, listen up!

It’s important to show people in your life respect.  But part of the fun of wedding planning is fulfilling your own wants, needs and dreams.  Haven’t you waited long enough? Gone to enough showers, bought enough bridesmaids dresses, danced the electric slide ’til your feet fall off?  You ought to be able to make your own choices. However, that doesn’t mean you need to charge around like Mariah Carey with her Rainbow Amex at Tiffany & Co. There are other people involved in this process.   You might be using Mom’s Amex, (Rainbow or otherwise) so her feelings figure in.  And your spouse-to-be? The guy/girl of your dreams? Remember him/her?  Keep in mind that everyone involved in your Big Day deserves a little respect.  Being conscious now will make everything easier as your plans develop.  So make sure you TCB. Sock it to me!
