The opening scenes of The Godfather are set at a beautiful outdoor wedding with a band, a lovely cake, and all the trimmings. It also serves as a way to introduce the nature of the film as we learn that Don Corleone is hearing requests because “no Sicilian can refuse a request on his daughter’s wedding day.” And with that you’re sucked in to a time and a world far from our own. And it’s delicious. And then there’s another wedding! We’ll call this one a destination wedding. It’s traditional and beautiful. When you surface, almost 3 hours later, get your hands on the sequel. There’s no wedding in that one, but there is an elaborate backyard celebration of a first communion. That will do. Enjoy.
